علي أبو زيد إنسان ما في قلبه على لسانه، تحبه لأنه لا يعرف أساليب المجاملة المتكلفة، ولا يعرف ثقافة النفاق. تنطلق كلماته قوية نحو الهدف النشود، وكذلك تنطلق خطواته نحو ميدان النضال.

هو صغير الجسم، قصير القامة، لكنه كبير الهمة، طويل الخطوات في وجهته التي يختار.

ولد بالرجبان عام 1941 وتلقى تعليمه الابتدائي والاعدادي بالرجبان ونالوت وجادو، ثم درس بطرابلس في الكلية الفنية، وأكمل دراسته الجامعية عن طريق الانتساب إلى كلية الاقتصاد والتجارة ـ قسم المحاسبة، وعمل في أرقى مكاتب المحاسبة بطرابلس.

كان من طليعة الشباب المسلم في تيار (الاخوان المسلمين) في الخمسينيات والستينيات من القرن الماضي. وفي عام 1973 جرى اعتقاله خلال الحملة التي شملت المئات من النخب الليبية، ومن فئات متعددة الاتجاهات الفكرية والسياسية. وظل في السجن لمدة نحو عامين.

هو صاحب علاقات اجتماعية طيبة، ويتمتع بروح منفحة، وبتلقائية جاذبة لكل من يقابله، ويتجاذب معه أطراف الأحاديث.

عرفت علي أبوزيد في مدينة طرابلس في ستينيات القرن الماضي، وتوثقت علاقتنا عندما استقر بنا المقام في لندن، وكانت تجمعنا علاقات عمل سياسية، وتجمعنا علاقات اجتماعية حميمة وجميلة، فخة ظله ومناكفاته تضفي على جلساتنا الكثير من المرح والضحك، وعاة نلتقي في بيته لتناول وجبة بازين من إعداد زوجته وابنة عمه الأخت “أمنة ابوزيد” التي ظلت مهتمة برعاية الأولاد والبنات حتى نالوا تعليما جيدا، وشقّوا طريقهم في الحياة. وهم: هدى، وهاجر، وحاتم، وهيثم.

كان أحد المؤسسين في “الجبهة الوطنية لإنقاذ ليبيا” التي انطلقت في مرحلتها الأولى عام 1980، وقام بعدة مسؤوليات إدارية ومالية وميدانية وفي أصعب المهام، وكان اقرب الناس  لإنقاذ ليبيا” التي انطلقت في مرحلتها الأولى عام 1980، وقام بعدة مسؤوليات إدارية ومالية وميدانية وفي أصعب المهام، وكان اقرب الناس إلى أحمد احواس، المسؤول عن الجناح العسكري في الجبهة الوطنية لانقاذ ليبيا.

في أوائل تسعينيات القرن الماضي قلّل من نشاطه السياسي التنظيمي لأسباب الفتور العام الذي مرت به أوضاع التنظيمات المعارضة، وتفرغ للعماتهل الخاص وعمل في متجر بشارع “وست جروف” الواقع بالقرب من “كوينز واي”. كانت مواد المتجر، من المواد الغذائية ومنها اللحوم، وكان في الوقت ذاته يسمح بوجود “مجلات المعارضة” في دكانه، وذلك في حد ذاته يجعله مراقَبا ومرصودا من قبل عملاء القذافي، الذي يضيق بأي نشاط معارض حتى وإن كان محدود الفاعلية والتأثير، وحتى إن كان خارج البلاد.

وفي السادس والعشرين من نوفمبر عام 1995، وفي وقت مبكر من ذلك اليوم، وقع الاعتداء على علي أبوزيد، وسقط شهيدا في داخل دكانه. في ذلك اليوم وفي ساعات الفجر الأولى تسلل القتلة إلى دكانه ودارت بينه وبينهم معركة بالخناجر وفارق الحياة، وفر الجناة.

في صباح ذلك اليوم وفي ساعات مبكرة دق جرس هاتف المنزل ليقول: إن باب الدكان مفتوح، ولكن لا إضاءة فيه. تقول ابنته “هدى” بحسها الاعلامي إن دقات قلبها ارتفعت وشعرت بخطر ما فذهبت فورا إلى الدكان، وعندما دخلت إلى آخر الدكان وجدت والدها مقتولا. كانت هدى في منتهى الشجاعة واتصلت فورا بالبوليس البريطاني لإعلامهم بالجريمة.

وبعد ساعات انتشر الخبر في وسائل الإعلام البريطانية. في تلك الساعات كنت أنا في العمل في “إم بي سي” وهاتفني الأخ عاشور الشامس، وأبلغني بوقوع اعتداء على علي أبوزيد، ولم يتأكد مصيره. وبعد وقت قصير اتصل بي مرة أخرى وأكد لي وفاته.

وصل الخبر إلينا عن طريق وسائل الأعلام، أذعنا الخبر عبر “إم بي سي إف إم” وفورا توجهت إلى مكان الجريمة، إي إلى دكان المرحوم، ووجدت عددا من أصدقاء علي بالقرب من الدكان الذي أصبح تحت رقابة الشرطة، وإجراء التحريات اللازمة في مثل هذه الجرائم. ثم توجهت إلى شقة سكن أسرة المرحوم لتعزيتهم ومواساتهم والوقوف معهم في تلك الساعات العصيبة.

مات علي أبوزيد واقفا، كما هي موتة كل الأبطال، وكل الشهداء وسيظل دمه لعنة تطارد كل من شارك في جريمة قتله، وبموته فقدت صديقا من قائمة أصدقاء العمر، رحمه الله، رحمة الأخيار الأبرار.

ذكر المناضل علي بشير حمودة في مذكراته الفقرة التالية التي تشير بشكل عام إلى دور الشهيد علي أبوزيد في عملية عبور الشهيد أحمد احواس ورفيقية الحدود الليبية التونسية في اتجاه أرض الوطن.

“بعد أن تلقيت الإشارة من أحمد احواس سافرت إلى تونس وفي طريقي مررتُ بالقاهرة وبقيت فيها يومين من أواخر أبريل 1984م، ووصلت العاصمة التونسية في ساعة متأخرة من الليل ونقلني التاكسي إلى فندق قديم اسمه نُزل تيرزا وعقب وصولي اتصلت من الفندق بالسيد علي أبوزيد –رحمه الله– الذي جاءني صباحاً ونقلني إلى فندق آخر اسمه : نزل فرنسا بنهج الحبيب تامر، وقد أمضيت فيه بقية المدّة إلى أن غادرته إلى ليبيا، ويوم 2 أو 3 مايو وصل أحمد حواس إلى تونس ونزل بفندق السفير، لأنه كان يحمل جواز سفر دبلوماسي والتقيته مساء ذلك اليوم هو وعلي أبوزيد وتناولنا طعام العشاء معا في أحد مطاعم العاصمة وتحدثنا بخصوص كيفية الدخول، فذكر علي أبوزيد أن الدخول عن طريق ترتيب الإخوة في الداخل يحتاج إلى عدّة أيام، نظراً لبعض الأحداث التي حصلت ومنها حرق المحكمة في زوارة على خلفية نزاع بين أهل زوارة والجميل أمّا الدخول عن طريق المهربين فممكن وخلال يومين فقط، وكان رأيي انتظار ترتيب الإخوة في الداخل فهو أقل خطراً من التعامل مع من لا نثق بهم كثيراً ولا تربطنا بهم صلة، لكنّ أحمد أصرّ على ضرورة الدخول بأسرع وقت وعن طريق المهربين، لأنّ الأمر لا يحتمل التأخير، وفي اليوم التالي وكان الجمعة صلينا الجمعة بمسجد اسمه مسجد السلام والعجيب أنّ الخطيب كان حديثه عن الجهاد والبذل والتضحية، ثمّ أخذنا علي أبوزيد لبيته حيث تناولنا طعام الغداء، وقال لي أحمد – ليعطيني فكرة عن علاقته بعلي بوزيد – لقد كنت وعلي في أسرة واحدة منذ عشرين سنة، يعني أيام كانا في جماعة الإخوان خلال منتصف الخمسينيات. بعد الغداء خرجنا في جولة بمنطقة سيدي بوسعيد وعدنا مساء وقد اتفقنا على السفر صباح السبت 5 مايو، فجاءني علي أبوزيد في .الفندق بسيارته ومعه أحمد حواس وركبت معهما وانطلقنا إلى محطة القطارات الرئيسة بتونس وهناك ودعنا علي رحمه الله الوداع الأخير الذي لم يكن بعده لقاء.”
